Job Description

Maintenance Technician

Lehigh University's campus is a landmark of history and innovation — and keeping it that way takes genuine skill. If you take pride in hands-on work that makes a real difference to the people who live, learn, and work around you, this is a role worth exploring. As a Maintenance Technician within the Facilities department, you'll carry out skilled building maintenance and repair work across Lehigh's distinctive campus. Working under general supervision, you'll apply broad maintenance knowledge to deliver reliable, high-quality outcomes — and at times, you'll manage tasks independently, drawing on your own expertise to get the job done.

Position Number: S75900

This position is a Grade: 8 - 40 with an approximate salary range of $47,570-$57,090 and is subject to change based on experience, skills and qualifications.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Perform skilled maintenance and repair tasks across campus buildings, including mechanical, structural, and general facilities work
  • Apply working knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment appropriate to each task
  • Identify maintenance issues promptly and carry out effective repairs with minimal rework
  • Interpret and action work orders accurately, ensuring tasks are completed to standard
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance to reduce unplanned failures
  • Respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner, minimizing disruption to campus operations
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and any follow-up requirements
  • Operate independently when required, prioritizing safety and quality throughout
  • Collaborate with Facilities colleagues to coordinate scheduling and share technical knowledge

What You'll Bring

  • High School Diploma or GED; Associates or Vocational/Technical degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Three to five years of work related experience
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Demonstrated experience in building maintenance or a closely related trade
  • Solid working knowledge of general maintenance and repair procedures across multiple disciplines
  • Ability to read work orders and apply the right materials and tools for each job
  • Comfort working both within a team and independently with minimal oversight
  • A methodical approach to problem-solving on the job
  • Familiarity with safety protocols in a facilities or institutional environment

Why Lehigh

Lehigh University is a research-intensive institution with a strong commitment to its people — including those who keep the campus running. As a full-time staff member, you'll have access to generous leave benefits, above-standard retirement contributions, and meaningful study assistance programs. The Facilities team is known for its collaborative culture and shared sense of purpose: this isn't anonymous maintenance work — you'll see the direct impact of what you do every day across a campus community that values every team member's contribution.

Lehigh University is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate. We are committed to a culturally and intellectually diverse community and we seek qualified candidates to contribute to the university's mission.

Persons with disabilities who anticipate needing an accommodation for any part of the interview or hiring process may contact Lehigh's Accommodations Specialist.

Special Considerations

  • The duties of the position do not allow for a remote work option; the employee in this position will be required to work on campus where they can be fully accessible to the Lehigh community.
  • This position is responsible for driving University-owned vehicles as a routine function, therefore a valid Driver's License and a good driving record is required.
  • This position has direct contact with minors, therefore, a background check is required.

Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position.

Only complete applications will be considered therefore please complete the application in its entirety. Once the posting is removed from the website applications may no longer be allowed to be completed.
